Mr. Harris was born March 30, 1939 in Albany, Georgia to the late James Houston Harris and Ruey Frances Brunson Harris Cardwell. He was joined in holy matrimony to Susan Diane Sosebee Harris on January 8, 1965. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, James Harris, Johnny Harris, and Jerry Harris.
Mr. Harris attended Jordan Vocational High School and drafting/architecture school at Columbus Technical College. He began his career as a carpenter and welder. He was a lifelong member of Ironworkers Union Local 387, and was just honored with a 50 year service award. Mr. Harris took great pride in his work and his accomplishments, building skyscrapers and major bridge construction all over the United States but to hear him tell it, his greatest accomplishments was his love for his wife, daughters, grandchildren and his great granddaughter. Mr. Harris and his wife of 57 years had one of the greatest love stories of all time. He honored and cherished every moment with her. She took the best care of him during his 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s and holding his hands until the last moment. Mr. Harris loved fishing, NASCAR, golf and his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. He was a father and friend to many and well respected for his work ethic. He also loved the Lord and his Masonic Bible, often reading to many. He was a member of Masonic Temple Mount Hermon Lodge 304. Mr. Harris had a larger than life personality, never met a stranger, would help anyone in need, and was one of the best at telling stories.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Harris Fuller (Pat Denton), Kristie Harris Ford, grandchildren; Frances Keaton Fuller, Kaleigh Diane Fuller, Abigail Houston Ford, Richard Gordon Ford, IV and great-grandchild, Leah Brooks Fuller.
