Evelyn McFarland, 86, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Columbus Hospice House.
A Celebration of her Life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Harvest Pointe Nazarene Church, 7777 Whitesville Road with Rev. Gene Wiseman, Rev. Gary Pankersley, Rev. Mark Tipton and Rev. Jim Marshall. officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Evelyn was born in East Millfield, Ohio on September 2, 1927, to Pearly Wicks and Della Mourne Wicks. She lived most of her early life in Columbus, Ohio, but moved to Columbus, Georgia in September 1989, to be near her family. She was an outstanding pianist and musician, and as a teacher and mentor, she devoted her life to sharing her talent and encouraging others to do the same. She was a member of Harvest Pointe Nazarene Church.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, James T. Marshall and Wayne McFarland, her brother, Carl Wicks, and her dear friend and companion, Berry Milam.
She is survived by two children: Jim Marshall (Marg Dorsey Marshall) and Tamara Edwards (Buddy Nelms); six grandchildren: Tanya Jones (Tom), Hype Marshall, Ryan Edwards (Tasha), Landon Marshall, Saralyn Marshall, and Jaime Marshall; five great-grandchildren: Ashton Edwards, Taylor Deal, Patrick Edwards, Ella Grace Edwards, and Gideon Jones; brother, Roger Wicks (Donna); many nieces and nephews, and special friend and caregiver, Stanley Ruth O'Shields.
Her family would like to thank St. Luke Respite Care and Columbus Hospice for the exceptional love and kindness they have shown in caring for their mother and grandmother.
