Doris Reid

Doris Mallone Bentley Reid, 90, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Christ Community Church with Rev. Jonathan Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Doris was born July 25, 1932 in Cairo, GA to the late Marion Curtis Bentley and Lucille Sheffield Bentley. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Teachers College, her Master’s degree from the Auburn University and her PhD from the University of Alabama. She was a life long teacher in the Muscogee County School District until her retirement. In retirement Doris continued to teach bible studies across the United States, sharing her passion for Jesus and her desire to teach salvation in Christ. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Sanford F. Reid, siblings, Donis King and Curtis D. Bentley.

She is survived by her children, Marc Reid (Doris), Terri Herring (Charles Carter), Brad Reid (Leah), grandchildren, Jody Price (Beth), Matthew Herring (Paige), Brian Reid (Anna), Riley Whitson (Luke), Rebekah Reid, Aaron Reid (Kailyn), Rachel Patrick (William), Julie Reid, great-grandchildren, Reid Herring, Sanford Reid, Lily Grace Herring, Mae Herring, Addison Reid, Olivia Reid, Owen Reid, Everly Whitson, Clark Reid, Hollis Herring and sister, Lottie Faye Lanier.

She was loved and will be missed, but we will not grieve as people who have no hope of ever seeing her again. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and we have trusted Christ as she did, we will see her again. To God be the Glory! 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
