A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM Monday, December 6, 2021 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Columbus, GA according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
David was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, son of Shirley Martin Cowart and the late Glenn C. Cowart. He attended Briarwood High School in East Point, Georgia and Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he sang in the chorus. He worked as a bartender at CNN Center in Atlanta, and at House of Blues and Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar in New Orleans. He was a devoted New Orleans Saints football fan.
He had a special relationship with his grandmother, Elsie Goodbee LeBlanc, whom he called “MeMere”, and his ashes will be laid to rest in the Covington, Louisiana City Cemetery near her.
Survivors other than his mother include his brother, Paul Cowart (wife Lisa) of Columbus, GA; nieces, Rachel Cowart Byrd of Columbus and Juliana Cowart of Atlanta; great niece, Edie Byrd of Columbus; sister, Diane Meyer, niece, Mary Nicole Meyer and nephew, Michael Meyer (wife Peyton)all of Texas.
David was treated with kindness by Dr. Grant Scarborough at Mercy Med of Columbus, GA. He loved cats and adopted “Xena” from PAWS in Columbus. He also was very supportive of those who were waiters, waitresses, and bartenders, understanding that is a difficult job. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you please consider making a donation to “The Giving Kitchen” (provides emergency assistance for food service workers through financial support and a network of community resources), or to PAWS of Columbus or to Mercy Med of Columbus, or simply give a generous tip to a server or bartender in his memory.
