Brent Wendell Helms, 32, of Wilmington, NC died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Thomas Pope and Dr. David Helms officiating. A private family interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Brent was born March 23, 1986 in Columbus, GA son of Larry "Keith" Helms and Carolyn Doswell Helms of Midland, GA. He served in the Georgia National Guard as a Signal Support Systems Specialist. Recently he was self-employed and took pride in his work at his own business - Wilmington's Best. He loved 4x4 off-roading and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Larry Helms and uncle, John Kevin Helms.
Survivors other than his parents include his brothers, Blake Helms of Atlanta, GA and Brian Helms of Chipley, FL, fiancée, Caitlin Macheski of Wilmington, NC, grandparents, Wendell and Joann Doswell of Columbus, GA and Judy and Bobby Booth of Fairhope, AL, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Valley Rescue Mission 2903 2nd Ave. Columbus, GA 31901.
