Alexander Shahan “Shay” Byars, 43, went to be with our Lord on Friday, May 27, 2022.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Avenue, Columbus, Georgia. The Reverend John Fugh and Dr. Buddy Cooper will officiate the service.
Shay was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Brookstone School in 1997, where he excelled in academics and sports. Shay graduated from Birmingham Southern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in economics. He also received a degree in law from Florida Coastal School of Law.
Shay was an avid outdoorsmen and treasured his time spent in nature. Shay’s fondest memories were spent at the beach surrounded by family or in the great outdoors. One of Shay’s greatest qualities was his heart for those in need and his desire to help others. He was a loving son and brother who will be missed tremendously.
He is survived by his two adoring families, the Hands and the Byars: Parents Donna and Kerry Hand, Alex Byars, Melissa Byars, brothers: David Hand (Catherine), Perry Blanchard (Berkley), Jimmy Byars, sister Lindsay Dietrich (Shane) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
