Willis Eugene “Gene” Bunn, Jr., 87, of Columbus went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 11, 2022. He passed peacefully with his loving family at his side.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory at 3:00 PM Tuesday, June 14, 2022 with burial immediately following at Parkhill Cemetery. Dr. Shane Green and Rev. John Fugh will be officiating. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 PM  Monday, June 13, 2022. Serving as Active pallbearers are Dudley Lawson, Bo St. Clair, Randy Rowe, Larry Bellamy, Greg Davis and Bruce Huff.

Gene was born in Thomaston, GA, on July 8, 1934 son of the late Willis Eugene Bunn, Sr. and Vera Estelle Dawson Bunn. He served 10 years in the United States Navy Reserves and owned and operated The Holiday House furniture store for 47 years in Downtown Columbus.  He was known for his friendliness, and he never hesitated to let people know he loved them.  He was loved and highly admired in the Columbus community. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and working in the yard with his loving wife, Sharon.  He looked forward to every Christmas as Sharon and he visited the Pediatric Unit at Piedmont Columbus Regional to give out toys to the pediatric patients. In addition, at Easter, he served as helper to the Easter Bunny (Sharon) at their church. Gene was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.  He was the oldest living member of the Mount Hermon Lodge No. 304F & AM in Columbus. Furthermore, for 15 years, he enjoyed playing trumpet for the Bob Barr Band.  He was also a member of The Rotary Club of Columbus and The Exchange Club of Columbus.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by late wife, Carol Lawson Bunn.

Gene is survived by his wife of 19 1/2 years, Sharon Bunn; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Henderson; daughter, Debra Martin (Aaron); son, Kerry Bunn; brother, Bobby Bunn (Bev); brother-in-law, Sonny Lawson; and extended family.

The family wishes to thank caregiver, Leslie Dalton, for her love and care of Gene during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church 2101 Wildwood Avenue Columbus, Georgia 31906.
