Willis C. Smith, 84, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 11, 2012 at Gentian Baptist Church 3853 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend Pat Nobles officiating. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Mr. Smith was born July 27, 1927 in Sand Springs, KY son of the late Willis C. Smith, Sr. and Minnie Smith English. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran having served in World War II. He worked as the Executive Chief of Communications for the Civil Service for 27 years and was a member of Gentian Baptist Church since 1957 and National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). He has been a longtime resident of Columbus, GA since 1956.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Clifford Anthony Smith, brothers, Ray Smith and Benjamin English, sister, Sue Carolyn English, and great grandson, Eliot Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jean Margaret Ellis Smith of Columbus, GA, daughter, Rebecca Smith Griffin (Larry) of Brunswick, GA, granddaughter, Dana Hudson (Eric) of Amelia Island, FL and their children, Jennifer, Trina, Jonathan, Zachary, Joshua and Chaz Hudson, granddaughter, Jennifer Parks Gomez (Jean Carlos) of Miami, FL and their children, Christopher Gomez, Frederick Parks and Elizabeth Parks, granddaughter, April Christina Smith and her daughter, Sophie Alexandria and granddaughters, Katilyn Smith Otwell and Taylor Anthony Smith, sisters, Jean English Kyle of Palmetto, FL and Ann Brock of Versailles, KY, and brothers, Robert Jack English of Santee, S.C., Tom English of Lawrenceburg, KY and Phillip Smith of Wilmington, N.C. He was loved by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Gentian Baptist Church 3853 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
