Willie Clara Rolling Cochran "Clara", 88, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully in the tender care of Columbus Hospice on Monday, January 4, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Thad Smith officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Clara was born December 26, 1927 in Banks, AL daughter of the late Grady Wilson Rolling and Addie Laura Brooks Rolling. On December 31, 2015 she and her high school sweetheart, Gerald Monroe Cochran "Wallace", celebrated 69 years of marriage. She attended Bibb City Elementary and graduated from Baker Village High School in 1947. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was the first Vice President and second President of Blanchard Elementary School PTA and received a lifetime membership from the National PTA Honor Society.
She held several positions through the years, including serving as Executive Assistant at her husband's business (American Blind and Awning Co.), secretary of North Highland Elementary School, and assistant controller of the Columbus Hilton. Her home, family, and faith were her true passions.
She loved hot dogs, Georgia football, and sweet tea. She was a true Southern lady, who was adored by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Monroe Cochran "Wallace" of Columbus, GA, daughters, Patricia Blackmon-Schmidt (Carl) of Palm Coast, FL and Beth Thomas (Eric) of Fortson, GA, grandchildren, Rachel Roth of Austin, TX, Sarah Blackmon of West Palm Beach, FL, Maxwell Blackmon of Jupiter, FL, Megan Oakes of Wilmington, NC and Abbie Oakes of Orlando, FL.
