William "Joe" Joseph Horn, 64 of Midland, GA died Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Piedmont Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, July 17, 2023 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
William was born on June 9, 1959 in Cincinnati OH to the late Joseph and Phyllis Horn. Joe faithfully served his country with the United States Army for over twenty-five years. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major and continued to work Civil service. During his many years of faithful service to his country he attended several leadership courses such as the Basic Non Commissioned Officer Course, Advance Non Commissioned Officer Course, the First Sergeant Course, and The Sergeant Major Academy to name a few. His awards include the NATO Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal. He was completely dedicated to his work and created many lifelong friendships along the way.
He was strong and physically active and worked long and hard at any task he set his mind to. He loved the outdoors and could be found riding his Harley Davidson or relaxing by the pool.
Joe was known for his large personality and always had a story or joke. He was a handyman who loved to tinker and could fix just about anything. Over the years his friends and family would call him when something would break, or if they needed help with anything around the house, and he would be there no matter what.
Joe loved his family with all he had and showed it in countless ways. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten, but is resting now peacefully in his heavenly home, reunited with his heavenly family.Mr. Horn was a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10558, Cataula, GA, and was also a member of Midland Masonic Lodge #144, F&AM
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his late wife Barbara Watson Horn.
He is survived by his longtime companion Kelly Blanton; his daughter Christina Horn Northington; his son in law Christopher Northington; his sisters; Lori Ogletree (Eddie) Bridget Webb (Jimmy) Kimberly Horn Nicholson (Bruce); Nephews Alex Brophy, Danny Nicholson, Jacob Nicholson; Niece Sydney Smith (Damian).
