It is with a profound sense of loss and enduring love that we announce the passing of William Andrew Washington, III, affectionately known as Bill, who left us peacefully on July 22, 2024 in Columbus, Georgia after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born on July 7, 1957, in Key West, Florida, Bill’s exuberant spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many during his 67 years. Bill’s journey began as the beloved son of William A. Washington, II and Paula Morgan. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of the Florida sun, and his youth was filled with the close-knit bonds of family, including his two brothers, Wayne and David, who preceded him in death. After graduating from Deerfield Beach High School, his passion for understanding people led him to study sociology at Coastal Carolina College in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he laid the foundations for a life of service and commitment to others. A patriot at heart, Bill dedicated years of his life to serving his country as a veteran of the United States Army and United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran during the Vietnam and Gulf War Eras, as well as in times of peace. He carried discipline and honor from his military days into his civilian life, where he continued to lead by example.

Bill’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He shared 41 beautiful years with his wife Victoria (Monter) Washington, and together they raised three wonderful sons: Eric T. (Stephanie) of Bluffton, SC, William J. (Kasey) of Smith Station, Al., and Christopher A. Washington (Rose) of Columbus, Ga. His role as a father and grandfather was one of his greatest joys, and he instilled in his sons the value of love, kindness, and intelligence. Bill’s legacy continues through his four grandsons and one great-grandson, who brought him immense joy and pride. An artisan by nature, Bill found solace and expression in woodworking and model building. His hands, skilled from years of practice, crafted not just objects but memories that his family will cherish forever. Bill’s playful spirit was never more evident than when he was immersed in computer games with his children and grandchildren, a pastime that allowed him to connect and share in their excitement. Bill’s zest for life extended beyond his home. He loved the freedom of the open road, riding his motorcycle, and exploring new horizons. An extensive traveler, he believed in the richness of experience and the growth that comes from discovering new places and cultures.

Those who knew Bill will remember a man of great intellect, a loving heart, and an unwavering kindness. His laughter was infectious, his counsel wise, and his presence a source of comfort and strength. As Helen Keller once said, “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Bill’s spirit and the love he shared with each of us will forever remain a part of who we are.

We bid farewell to a remarkable man whose life was a testament to the virtues of love and service. While we mourn his departure from this earthly realm, we take solace in the countless memories and the indelible mark he has left on our hearts. Bill’s story is not one of an end, but a beautiful chapter in the enduring book of life that his family and friends will continue to read with fondness and admiration. William Andrew Washington III’s life was a beacon of love and an example of how to live with courage, joy, and an unrelenting commitment to family. As we celebrate his life and mourn his passing, we hold onto the light he shone upon all of us.

Rest in peace, dearest Bill; your legacy will live on. Semper Fi Marine!
