William Chris Russell

William Chris Russell, 70, of Columbus, GA passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Christ Community Church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Chris was born May 18, 1952 to the late Earl and Nell Russell. He attended Gentian Elementary Richards and Hardaway. He earned two degrees and a master’s in education from CSU. He was passionate about music, literature, sports and enjoyed a game of golf. He played keyboard for several bands and churches through the years. People enjoyed his singing as well as his playing.

One highlight of his 20’s was traveling across Europe with a missionary team. He was the piano player on the stops there and formed some life-long friendships with some American military he met in Germany. Chris enjoyed working for the Ledger-Enquirer as a writer. Later he worked for CSU in publications. He also taught some English and literature classes at CSU. After his retirement Chris took a part- time job at Wynnton Hardware. Even there he ended up using his writing and lay-out skills more than selling hardware for Mr. Comer, the owner.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gloria Russel l, sons, Jesse Russell (Stephanie) and Joshua Russell, sister, Deti Whatley (Kenneth Turner), Carol Clenney (Rudy), brother, Greg Russell, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
