William Thomas "Bill" Riles, 83, of Columbus, GA, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at The Gardens at Cavalry.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at New Vision Christian Ministries Church in Waverly Hall, GA, with Reverend Glenn Presley officiating. Burial will follow at Waverly Hall Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mr. Riles was born July 4, 1931, in Cusseta, GA, to the late John L. Riles and Myrtle L. Riles. He proudly served his country during the Korean War joining the Navy in 1951, and leaving active duty as an Electrician's Mate in 1955. Mr. Riles often spoke of his days in the Navy and told many stories of his service including his days stationed on Guam.
After his naval service, Mr. Riles continued to work as an electrician, teaching and running a business in the ensuing years. Mr. Riles married and raised a family in Columbus, GA. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time in his shop on woodworking projects. Mr. Riles finished his career managing the electrical department at Home Depot where everyone knew him as "Mr. Bill."
Mr. Riles was a member of New Vision Christian Ministries Church in Waverly Hall, GA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Caldwell and a brother, Joseph V. Riles.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elleen M. Riles of Columbus, GA; his son, William E. "Billy" Riles (Cindy) of Waverly Hall, GA; daughters, Diane Thurman (Dr. Lavon) of Hamilton, GA, and Donna Post (Mark) of Cataula, GA; grandchildren, Brittany Powell, Drew McNeil, Jamie Clark, Katie Post, and Shelby Clark; and 5 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, New Vision Christian Ministries Church in Waverly Hall, GA and Columbus Hospice.
