William Earl (Billy) Pettis

William Earl (Billy) Pettis, 77, of Columbus, GA died Monday, August 14, 2023 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 17, 2023 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Mark Sasser officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

He was born October 20, 1945 and was a lifelong resident of Columbus, GA where he graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1964. He worked as a machinist in the printing industry for most of his life and retired from Communicorp in 2012. In Billy’s younger days, he enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball teams, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Georgia/Alabama Bass Club for many years and became known as “Speedy” with his fellow bass fishing buddies. Later in life, Billy enjoyed following his grandkids Bailey and Cole and all of their activities and then became affectionately known as “Granddaddy”. He also enjoyed dancing and would travel around with the dance club doing the shag. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

Billy is survived by two sons, Allen Pettis (Tracy) and Jason Pettis (Holly) as well as two grandchildren Bailey Pettis and Cole Pettis.
