William "Richard" Nixon, 68, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, August 08, 2020 at his residence.
A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, those attending the funeral service will be required to wear a face mask and social distancing will be in effect.
Richard was born June 1, 1952 in Summerville, GA to the late James Cordell and Hazel Nixon . He moved to Columbus, GA in 1978 where he met his beautiful bride, Layna. He was an electrician for 40 years but retired from Columbus Consolidated Government. He was affiliated with Bethel Tabernacle Assembly of God and Auburn Heights Baptist Church. He gave his life to the Lord at the age of 33 and served faithfully since. He was an anointed singer and used his gifts and talents to bring many people to the Lord and uplift the name of Jesus. He was an avid hunter and spent many days and nights in the woods which most times turned into prayer meetings. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers,James David Nixon and Timothy Nixon, sisters, Carolyn Wesson, Jo Spears, Dorothy Baugh, Mary Nell Joyner and Betty Beckner.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Layna Nixon of Columbus, GA, children Tanya Doll (Justin) of Columbus, GA, Barry Nixon (Christi) of Cedartown, GA, Dawn Palmer of Camilla, GA, Jack Smith (Tracy) of Columbus, GA,siblings, Anthony Nixon (Tina) Aragon, GA, Phillip Nixon (Debbie) of Gaylesville AL, Larry Nixon (Rose) of Summerville GA, Mike Nixon (Linda) of Sugar Valley GA, Rita Brock (Larry) of Summerville GA, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
