William Albert Dozier, 88, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House.

A private graveside service with the family will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Parkhill Cemetery with Rev. Dick Reese officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.  For those who would like to view the service, it will be streamed live 2:00 PM Saturday, March 13, 2021 @ www. mcmullenfuneralhome.com. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, facemasks and social distancing will be required during the services.

William was born March 11, 1932 in Winfield, GA to the late Thomas Albert Dozier and Josie Large Hall Dozier. Mr. Dozier worked as an Electrical Engineer for Georgia Power and was the 1974 Engineer of the Year for Columbus Chapter of GAES and the Engineer of the Year for GPEA. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy and 1956 Graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the marching band, and the camera club. In 1957, he met his wife, a nurse at Emory University Hospital, when he was there for an appendectomy and nicknamed her “Angel.” He taught courses in higher-level mathematics at Columbus Technical College to students seeking their Professional Engineer certifications.  He retired from Georgia Power after 34 years, as the Division Planning Engineer. After retiring, he became a member of Georgia Power’s Columbus Ambassadors Club. Mr. Dozier was a Life Member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, a member of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong learner, who loved reading books (favorite subject was physics), taught himself how to build his own cabin on Lake Harding with his two sons and received a patent for his Dozier Dead Cable Certifier, used to keep power crews safe and work more efficiently.  He loved fishing with his family and good friend Gary Tomlin. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Elinor Dozier Gibson, Dorothy Dozier Cheney and Joseph Sibley Dozier.

He is survived by his Wife, Virginia Dozier of Columbus, GA, sons, Steve Dozier (Cathy) of Columbus, GA, Bill Dozier (Emily) of Powder Springs, GA, grandchildren, Virginia Dozier, Aaron Dozier both of Columbus, GA and Molly Szalma (Stephen) of Dallas, GA.
