William Jasper Corbett passed away on November 19, 2014 at the age of 92.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Udell Addison officiating. A private family interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Corbett was born in Seale, Alabama on May 5, 1922. He will be missed by Sara, his wife of 68 years, and a family that he spent a lifetime caring for and loving. He attended Cottonton High School and then served honorably in World War II, stationed in the Pacific theater. After his honorable discharge from military service, he worked 63 years at C & B Auto Parts in Columbus. His customers in the parts business appreciated his energetic, helpful attitude and benefited from his expertise. He enjoyed gardening, attending and working at his church, and spending time with his family and his dogs. He was a longtime member of Ladonia Baptist Church, Phenix City, where he served as Sunday School General Secretary for 54 years. In recent years he was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Smiths Station.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Corbett, his mother, Gertha, his sisters Louise Renka, Dot Wilde, Florence McCann, and his brother Lloyd Corbett.
He is survived by his wife Sara, daughter Cathy and husband Ken Clark, son Bill and wife Monica Corbett, grandchildren Brock Corbett and Casey and husband Bob Luschen, great grandchildren Emma Grace and Amelia Luschen, his brothers John Mack, Bert, and Harold Corbett, his sisters Martha Greer and Gwen Joiner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31907, Gentiva Hospice, 100 Brookstone Centre Pkwy Columbus, GA 31904, or Valley Rescue Mission.
