William Frederick Boynton, known affectionately as Pappy or Rick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 7, 2024 in Columbus, GA. Born on December 24, 1958 in Atlanta, GA, William's life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and adventure.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM EST on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 SR-165, Ft. Mitchell, AL 36856 according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd Columbus GA, 31907.


William grew up in Jonesboro, GA and was a proud graduate of the Forrest Park High School class of 1975. His early years in Georgia set the foundation for a life marked by service and passion. After high school, William embarked on a distinguished military career, honorably serving his country with the U.S. Army for over 20 years. His service took him across the globe, with multiple duty stations that included a memorable time in Germany. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Heike, forging a partnership that would last over 39 years.

William's military career was filled with noteworthy achievements, including a deployment with the 82nd Airborne Division to Panama in support of Operation Just Cause. As a proud paratrooper, he demonstrated the courage and adventurous spirit that would characterize his entire life. Upon his retirement from active duty, William continued his commitment to service as a civilian contractor, eventually settling down in Columbus, GA with his family.

Beyond his military service, William's interests and passions brought joy to both his life and the lives of those around him. An ardent Atlanta Braves fan and a fervent supporter of UGA football, he found camaraderie and excitement in the world of sports. William's love for martial arts was not only a personal pursuit but also a gift he shared with his son, William, instilling in him the same dedication and discipline that he valued so highly.


Motorcycles and hot rods were among William's lifelong passions. From a young age, the thrill of the ride and the roar of the engine captivated him. His adventurous spirit was mirrored in the care and attention he devoted to these treasured machines.

Those who knew William would describe him as loving, adventurous, and courageous. These traits were the cornerstones of his character and were evident in every aspect of his life—from the love he showered upon his family to the bravery he displayed throughout his military career and the enthusiasm with which he approached his hobbies.

William's life was one of unwavering commitment to his country, his loved ones, and his passions. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the knowledge that his spirit will forever remain a guiding light for all who were blessed by his warmth and kindness. William Frederick Boynton's journey through life was a testament to the power of living with an open heart and an unbridled zest for adventure. William is preceded in death by his Mother Margie Sumner Boynton and his Father William Archie Boynton.

He is survived by Heike K. Boynton (Wife), William Sascha Boynton (Son), Stefanie Talbot (Daughter), Martina Boynton (Daughter), Russell Boynton (Brother), Pamela Kline (Sister), and many other loving family members who will dearly miss him.
