William (Bill) Eugene Hughes

William (Bill) Eugene Hughes, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away on January 23rd, 2024 in Midland, Georgia. Born on December 27th, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Maurice and Mary Hughes. Bill was a man of great character and unwavering love for his family.

In his professional life as an Air Traffic Controller for over two decades before retiring with honor. He also pursued his passion for flying by becoming a commercial pilot. His dedication to aviation was matched only by his devotion to his family. Bill cherished every moment spent with them and made sure they knew how much he loved them.

He is survived by his loving daughters Lauren Hughes and Hallie Trax (and husband Jim); son Brian Hughes (and wife Tiffani); sister Sally Crocker (and husband John); as well as five adoring grandchildren: Shane and Tiffany Trax and Samantha, Rylee, and Emily Hughes.

Bill's love extended beyond just family - he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed nothing more than watching their games with friends or family members who shared in his enthusiasm for sports.  He was also an enthusiastic fisherman, both fresh and saltwater, he frequented Costa Rica for yearly fishing trips.

His passions were not limited to sports alone - William had a talent for smoking meat that brought joy to all those lucky enough to taste it. His culinary skills didn't stop there; he loved cooking for others whenever possible.

Additionally known as someone who always kept up with the latest technology trends – whether it be gadgets or gizmos – Bill had an insatiable curiosity about new innovations that never waned throughout the years.

A memorial service will be held at McMullen Funeral Home on Saturday January 27th between the hours of 2 and 4 P. M, where friends and family can gather together one last time to celebrate the life of this remarkable man whose presence will forever be missed but never forgotten.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as this was a very important cause to him.
