Willene passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 under the excellent care, comfortably given by the staff of Columbus Hospice. She was 84 years old.

Willene was born Norma Willene Phoenix in Columbus on December 17, 1931 to Bill and Ruth (McCreary) Phoenix. She resided her entire life in Columbus. Following her graduation from Jordan Vocational High School, she met and married the one true love of her life, Robert A. (Bob) Sistrunk. They were married for over 64 years and have one child, R. Allen Sistrunk.

Willene served the greater portion of her career working for David Rothschild Company for over 40 years. She enjoyed her second career the most with the Columbus Literacy Council, helping others improve their lives, for 5 years. She was a dedicated, committed, and passionate homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and volunteering. She was a life-long caring and giving member of Sherwood United Methodist Church.

Willene is survived by her husband Bob Sistrunk of Columbus, her son Allen Sistrunk of Boca Raton, FL, two sisters, Vera Bullard of Kennesaw, GA and Sue Belcher of Woodstock, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Elma Milner.

Willene fought the good fight, she finished the race, and she kept the faith.

A private graveside ceremony will be held according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

In lieu of flowers, food, and gifts, a donation to Columbus Hospice is suggested.
