Wilburn Theadore “Ted” Stephens, 86, of Columbus, GA died October 31, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital.
A celebration of life will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Gentian Baptist Church, 3853 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907, with the Rev. Bert Arnold and Rev. David Hardwick officiating, according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive family and friends from 12:00 – 1:00 PM, November 3, 2020 at the church. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 face coverings and social distancing will be required during the memorial service and visitation.
Ted was born July 8, 1934 in Roanoke, AL to the late Hubert F. Stephens and Maud Stephens. A retired Minister of Music, he served in several Columbus churches over his long ministry. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army and the National Guard. Ted was a member of Gentian Baptist Church where he taught a men ’ s Sunday school class. Ted loved music and singing, as well as golf and wood working, and he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Parris Stephens of Columbus, GA; children, Neil Stephens (Rhonda) of Columbus, GA, Rich Stephens (Jamie) of Cumming, GA, Danny Stephens (Cindy) of Palm Coast, FL; sisters Ann Thomas of Ball Ground, GA, Gale Holliday of Hiawassee, GA, brothers, Micheal Stephens (Nancy) of Montgomery, AL and Randy Stephens of Columbus, GA; eight grandchildren: Jessica Hedden (Patrick), Aaron Stephens (Sara), Joshua Stephens, Noah Stephens, Promise Stephens, Dove Stephens, Jett Stephens and Skarlet Shuplat; and one great grandchild, Adelaide Stephens; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
Most recently Ted and Barbara were faithful volunteers at the Columbus Baptist Association Mission.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Samaritans Purse: Operation Christmas Child.
