The funeral service of Mrs. Wanda Jean Collins, 77 of Columbus, GA, who died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, will be conducted Monday, Feb. 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment will follow at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
A native of Butler, GA, Mrs. Collins was born August 20, 1942, daughter of the late James Robert and Tessie Vera Ligon. She was the widow of the late WO-1 Douglas W. Collins. She was a former member of Wynbrook Baptist Church. She grew up in Cusseta, GA, where she also helped raise her siblings. She retired from the Columbus Housing Authority after decades of service. She was very strong willed and sometimes stubborn, never giving up. She also had a love for shelling peas and preserving vegetables and she loved her Atlanta Braves.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her daughter Natalie Hamil (Stephen) of Sylvania, GA, two grandchildren Douglas Johnson of Columbus, GA and Tessa Hamil of Jacksonville, FL., her brothers, Ronnie Ligon (JoAnn) of Knoxville, TN., Harry Ligon (Janice), Stewart Co., GA, her sisters, Pam Ligon (Ben), Cusseta, GA. and Peggy McGarity (Dr. Bill McGarity) of Stone Mountain, GA. and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Gantt Bone, Harold Johnson, Ransom May, Aaron McGarity, William McGarity and Blake Shelton will serve as pallbearers.
