Walter Haddock Richardson died on Friday, December 14, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. January 9, at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Reverend Cindy Garrard and Reverend Helen Berenthien will officiate. A visitation will be held at McMullen Funeral Home on January 8 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Mr. Richardson was born January 21, 1952, in Columbus, Georgia, the only child of John Walter and Marjorie Haddock Richardson. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1970 and was a graduate of Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity at Auburn.

Following his graduation from Auburn, he joined R.P. Industries in Raleigh, NC, as Vice President of Marketing and promoted the Texas Inertia Nutcracker invented by Columbus doctor Heywood Turner. In 1978, he moved to Charlotte, NC, and worked for the PTL Television Network, where he helped build one of the largest Christian television networks in the world. In 1988, he moved to Tulsa, OK, to work for Oral Roberts University. He built a television station, KGEB, for the University to help spread the gospel into all homes and headed up Golden Eagle Broadcasting. At the time of his death, he had just retired as President and General Manager of Golden Eagle Broadcasting America.

In 1980, he married Marjorie Thrasher Richardson and they had two children, Judson Haddock Richardson and Elizabeth Catherine Richardson.

He was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching his Auburn Tigers and the Atlanta Falcons. He also enjoyed reading, cooking, photography, fishing, and playing his X-Box and had a passion for Sherlock Holmes and Albert Einstein.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, John and Marjorie Richardson, and his grandparents, John and Eudora Richardson and Jesse and Lorene Haddock.

Survivors include his son and daughter, Jud Richardson and Libba Richardson; the mother of his children, Margie T. Richardson; his aunt, Ruth Mathis; and a number of cousins.

Memorials may be made to the ORU Whole Person Scholarship in honor of Walter Richardson at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, or to St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA.
