SFC Rt. Walter Bunyan Johnson 74 of Columbus, GA died Friday, October 09, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Lamb officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
SFC Johnson was born Decemer 31, 1934 in Jacksonville, FL; son of the late Johnny and Hettie Mendora Yates Johnson. He was a Chef in the U.S. Army. He was a great role model and leader for his soldiers, always there when he was needed. Nothing was ever too hard and he stepped up when no one else would. As a husband and a father, he accepted many challenges that required strength and faith. He took the role as grandfather more seriously than anything else in his life. His guidance, Love, strong hands, and open shoulders will be missed dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Helga Johnson of Columbus, GA; sons, Walter Johnson of Jacksonville, FL and David Johnson of Lake Butler, FL; daughter Jenna Smith (Patrick) of Ft. Benning, GA; sister Thelma Mischel of Cocoa Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; niece, Betty Johnson of Jacksonville, FL;and one grandchild, Anna Christina Smith of Ft. Benning, GA.
