Walter Stanley Ison, 70, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Vernon Prather officiating. Interment will follow in Hillview Annex Cemetery in LaGrange, GA. The family will receive friends Monday, March 19, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mr. Ison was born September 7, 1941 in Columbus, GA son of the late Charlie Roy Ison and Mattie Dunn Ison. He served in the U. S. Air Force and retired after 30 years as a school teacher with Muscogee County School District. He was a member of Kirkland Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Ison loved to fish, golf and volunteered at Callaway Gardens.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia "Pat" Ison of Columbus, GA; daughter, Marcie Phillips (Keith) of Mountain View, AR; granddaughter, Ashley Colclasure (Tim) of Hurricane, WV; grandson, William Walter Phillips of Fayetteville, NC and numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1382, Columbus, GA 31902 or the American Heart Association, 1639 Bradley Park Drive, Suite 500 #379, Columbus, GA 31904.
