Mr. Edenfield was born July 01, 1940 in Esto, Fl. son of the late George Myers and Wilma Ineta Edenfield. He retired after 35 years as a Lieutenant from the Columbus Fire Department and for the majority of his career Linda would take the kids down to the fire department for dinner so he wouldn't miss a meal with them. This continued all through his life and every Sunday afternoon was spent eating around the family table, laughing and sharing stories of the past.
Walter had a natural green thumb and loved to work in his vegetable garden as well as plant flowers. His second love was tinkering with broken things so he could put them back together and also anything carpentry related. We all loved his wooden reindeer that he would make at Christmas time and he loved making them as much as we loved enjoying them. Teaching his children and grandchildren how to put together the perfect wooden saw horses for the annual family yard sale always put a smile on his face.
Although he had not actively participated in church for many years, he lived a Christian life. He taught his children God's love, grace, and mercy. It was his life's mission that they grew up knowing how to love others, help anyone in need, and understand that family should always come first.
Other than his parents, Mr. Edenfield is predeceased by his brother Dewitte Edenfield.
Walter Edenfield was a family man. His family was always his first priority. He spent 56 wonderful years married to his beautiful wife, Linda Edenfield and had four children, Brenda Lowell of Columbus, Ga., Cindy Fry (Chris) of Madison, Al., Diana Broughton (Steve) and David Edenfield (Erica) all of Columbus, Ga. Mr. Edenfield is also survived by his brother Gene Edenfield (Carol) of Columbus, Ga., and nephew Bubba Edenfield (Rosie) of Sylvania, Ga., 10 grandchildren, Brandon Green (Jennifer), Whitney Lowell, Shane Fry, Tracey Beard (Andy), Kyle Green, Cameron Lowell, Corey Fry, Erin Edenfield, Sarah Fry and Emily Edenfield and one great grandchild Carter Beard.
