Walter Charles "Charlie" Brooks, a cherished husband, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, in Auburn, Alabama. Born on March 15, 1950, in Montgomery, Alabama, Charlie was a man whose humor, warmth, and wisdom touched the lives of many.

Charlie was a proud graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in his hometown of Montgomery. After graduation, he honorably served in the United States Air Force, where he developed a strong sense of duty and commitment that would define his career and personal life. Following his military service, Charlie embarked on a successful career with BellSouth Telecommunications, where he was known for his analytical skills and friendly demeanor. After retiring, he channeled his expertise into his own consulting firm, where his wise counsel was highly valued. He possessed a rare blend of kindness and intelligence that made him a trusted friend and advisor to many.

Those who knew Charlie will fondly remember his love for playing senior softball and his unwavering support for Auburn sports, specifically football, baseball, and men’s basketball. A voracious reader, he found joy and relaxation in books, expanding his knowledge and understanding of the world. Charlie was also a Parrot-head, and like Jimmy Buffett, embraced a laid-back lifestyle and easy-going nature.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancie 'Janie' Brooks, who was his partner in all aspects of life, providing love, laughter, and companionship. Charlie was a guiding presence in the lives of his step-sons, Jimmie Dickey (Rebecca) and Keith Dickey (Amanda), who will miss his wisdom and support. His grandchildren, Jimmie Jr. and Ruth Dickey, will cherish memories of their grandfather's gentle spirit and the lessons he imparted. Charlie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, who laid the foundation for the remarkable man he would become.

Charlie's life was a testament to the values of dedication, understanding, and joy. His departure has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Walter Charles "Charlie" Brooks, we celebrate the legacy of a life well-lived, a journey marked by compassion, intelligence, and humor.
