Velva Walters Newman, 85, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Brookside Glen Assisted Living.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Willie C. Martin and Rev. Matt Mouser officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, July 11, 2022 at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.
Mrs. Newman was born August 21, 1936 in Colquitt County, GA to the late Robert F. Walters and Lois Truluck Walters. She was a retired school bus driver with the Muscogee County School District, with more than 25 years of service. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and was one of the original members when the church was founded.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edward B. Newman and great-granddaughter, Khloe Gaddy.
She is survived by her daughters, Dee Mitchell (Tony) of Midland, GA, Rae Knighton (Ronnie) of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Emily Kilcrease (Adam) of Phenix City, AL, Brittany Mitchell of Columbus, GA, Lauren Mitchell of Columbus, GA, great-grandchildren, Adalyn Kilcrease, Kynslee Gaddy, Kamryn Gaddy, Emersyn Kilcrease and great-grandchild, baby boy Gaddy due December 2022.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to First Free Will Baptist Church at 952 54th St, Columbus, GA 31904.
