Velma Louise Taylor, 95, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Morningside of Columbus Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2012 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dan MacMinn officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Mrs. Taylor was born November 18, 1916 in Phenix City, AL daughter of the late Fred A. and Wesley Baker Hunter. She was a homemaker. She lived most her life in Cataula, GA and was a long-time active member of Cataula United Methodist Church where she served on many church committees and taught a Sunday School class. She was also active in the United Methodist Women group.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Leonard C. Taylor, a brother, Woodson Hunter, and a sister, Esther Powers.

Survivors include her two sisters, Annie Ruth Caudle of Columbus, GA and Frances Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO, five children, Leonard C. Taylor, Jr. (Ann) of Fortson, GA, Carol Glover of Phenix City, AL, Reverend Richard A. Taylor (Diane) of Albuquerque, NM, Norma Bell (Bobby) of Salem, AL and Hugh A. Taylor (Carroll) of Cataula, GA, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Morningside of Columbus for the excellent care and compassion they showed during the difficult times. We also would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Columbus Hospice for their expert medical care.
