Velma Louise Murphy, 87, of Columbus died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, June 20, 2011 at Trinity Temple Assembly of God with Rev. Mike McBride officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 till 5 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus.
Mrs. Murphy was born April 9, 1924 in Columbus daughter of the late Martha Wilkinson Hearn and Benjamin Franklin Hearn. She retired after 30 years as a secretary with civil service at Ft. Benning. She was a a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, SFC Army Retired Homer Murphy and son Homer Keith Murphy.
Survivors include her daughters, Jean Sanford (Steven) of Columbus, GA; Martha Lehman (Harry) of Midland, GA and Rebecca Lawhon (Charles) of Phenix City, AL; sons, Michael Quinton Murphy and Charles Edward Murphy both of Columbus, GA; sister Leona Bane of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Shawn Murphy, Brian Murphy, Michelle Roy, Sarena Black, Latina Carroll, Kristina Sanford, Lance Lehman, Brad Lehman, Hope Boswell, Chris Murphy, Erica Lawhon and Samantha Lawhon; eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
