Van E. Thorpe, 74, of Salem, AL died Sunday February 5, 2012 at the Medical Center in Columbus, GA.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2012 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Reverend Emory Evans officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Colonial Funeral Home 613 14th Street Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Thorpe was born April 13, 1937 in Dale County, AL to the late Edward and R.A. Senn Thorpe. He was a metal worker by trade and a U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Thorpe of Davie, FL, sons, Roland Thorpe of Miami, FL, Ricky Thorpe of Davie, FL, and Randy Thorpe of Virginia Beach, VA, sisters, Emma Cochran of Dale County, AL, Sara Lolly and Faye Geiger both of Covington, AL, and Lona McInnis of Dale County, AL, brothers, Bob and Buddy Thorpe both of Dale County, AL, and five grandchildren.
