Traci Lynn Freeman, 36, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Doctor's Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 1, 2009 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend J.W. Norman and Reverend James Johnson officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Traci Lynn Freeman was born in Jackson, MS on March 21, 1973. Miss Freeman moved to Columbus, GA with her parents in 1990. She graduated co-valedictorian of Columbus High School in 1991. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA for two years on a presidential scholarship, and graduated with an RN degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, in 1996. Miss Freeman was employed as a RN specialist in pediatric neurology at Shands Hospital, University of Florida in Gainesville for twelve years. She wrote a booklet entitled Hope for Tomorrow, A Family Guide for Treating Pediatric Brain Tumors. This was written to encourage parents of children who have brain tumors, and Miss Freeman could write this with true empathy as she herself was diagnosed with a brainstem tumor in 1988.
While living in Florida, Miss Freeman attended The Family Church of Gainesville and was active in several ministries there. She also served on the board of directors for the Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville.
In July of 2008, Miss Freeman moved back to Columbus, GA. She was actively attending Berean Covenant Church and volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House of West Georgia.
Miss Freeman is survived by her parents, Ken and Sandra Freeman of Fortson, GA, her sister and brother-in-law, Trudi and J.W. Norman of Ellerslie, GA, her grandparents, John Henry and Anne Freeman of Hillsboro, MS, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
