Tommy Edward Velez

Tommy Edward Velez, 61, of Columbus, GA passed peacefully in his childhood home on Sunday, March 2, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born in Columbia, SC son of the late Luis and Sarah Velez. He was the youngest of five children, Tommy graduated from Jordan High School in 1981. After high school he began his career as a surgical tech with Hughston Clinic. In 1991 he was recruited and moved to California as a surgical assistant. He spent his remaining years in and around Contra Costa County, California until his medical retirement from Kaiser Permanente Hospital. He returned home to Columbus in 2019. Per Tommy’s wishes, a private cremation will be held without funeral services.
He is survived by his sister, Lessie Oswald of Columbus, GA, brother, Louis Joseph Velez, nieces, Stephanie Davis (John), Veronica Oswald (Cat Aguilar), nephew, Dominic Oswald (Holly), and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice for the care they provided during his final days.
