Thomas Wesley Martin Sr.

Thomas Wesley Martin Sr. passed peacefully at St Francis hospital surrounded by his family September 28, 2024.

Tom was born June 12, 1953, to his loving parents Calvin and Jewel Martin. He graduated Hardaway High School in 1971 and graduated Columbus College June 1975 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Tom was active in Morningside Baptist Church where he has served in the preschool department over forty years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching his grandsons play baseball. Tom was known by many names – Tom, Tommy, Coach Martin, Mr. Tom, Boss Man – but his favorite name was Papa.

Tom was the beloved husband of 49 years to his wife Cheryl Edenfield Martin, father to Shannon (David) Hardegree, Wesley (Amanda) Martin and Matthew (Amber) Martin and Allen Taft (who he considered a son). He was the best Papa to Eli Hardegree (Little Man), Ella Grace Hardegree (Princess), Kaleb Martin (Hoss), Drake Martin (Pokey), Tyler Martin (Tyler Roo), Huddy (Huddy Buddy) and Bo (Little Bit). He is survived by his brother Chris (Delbra) Martin and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Morningside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers gifts can be made to Morningside Baptist Church Library. Tom loved SEC football, especially Alabama Crimson Tide and the family requests everyone wear their favorite team colors to the service.
