SSG (Ret) Thomas Grady Kirkland, 75, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held 2 PM Friday, October 30, 2009 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Emory Evans officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Kirkland was born June 7, 1934 in Adel, GA son of the late Arthur McClain Kirkland and Stella Mae Crum Kirkland. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years serving the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his retirement, he worked as a mechanic at Preston Garage in Columbus, GA. He was a member of Faith Temple Assembly of God in Phenix City, AL.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Connell Kirkland of Columbus, GA, three daughters, Deborah Contway (Tom) of Russell Co., AL, Janet Jacobs (Waylon) of Columbus, GA and Sandra Lee (Larry) of Lee Co., AL, two sons, Thomas W. Kirkland (Sondra) of Cypress, Italy and William H. Kirkland (Diane) of Columbus, GA, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Faith Temple Assembly of God 4 Meadowood Dr. Phenix City, AL 36869 or to a charity of your choice.
