Mr. Thomas A. "Tom" Hill, 78, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, October 4, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.

Memorial Visitation will be held at 3:00-5:00 PM, Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.



Tom was born in Lanett, AL to the late Grover Preston Hill and Frances Dutton Hill (Zeiger). He played football for and graduated from Lanett High School before attending Auburn University and joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959. Following his service overseas, he began his career in avionics as Electronics Specialist for Continental Airlines in Southern California. There, he met and married the love of his life, JoAnn Marie Gates on September 6, 1975. While continuing to advance in his career, he received degrees in English and Fine Arts from California State University in Dominguez-Hills in Carson, CA. In 1989 Tom retired from Boeing as Project Manager in the B1 Bomber program and moved to Columbus. His love of art led him to open Columbus Custom Framing, which closed its doors in 2012 due to the progression of Alzheimer's.



Tom will always be remembered for his love of the beach, art, literature, motorcycles, airplanes, bowling, crosswords, and long stories. He has left a legacy to everyone he touched which represents strength, honesty, pride, and love and he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Richard Zeiger, and brother, Herman Zeiger.



He leaves behind his devoted wife of 39 years, JoAnn Hill of Columbus, GA; children, Thomas Hill and Jody Hill both of Columbus, GA; sisters, Janice Fields of Foley, AL and Lennie Edwards of Valley, AL; devoted family friend, Scott Halama of Columbus, GA; cousin, George Hill, Jr. of Lanett, AL; many nieces and nephews; felines, Zeus and Zoe of Columbus, GA.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to The Columbus Hospice staff for their care and dedication throughout their time of need.
