Thomas "Fred" Day, Sr. 80, of Columbus died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his residence.

A private funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Tim Graham officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.

Mr. Day was born August 07, 1933 in Phenix City, Al. son of the late Thomas Crawford Day and Izora Lillian Smith Day. He was a former pilot, for the Hardaway Company, Callaway Company, the Hughston Clinic and retired as a pilot for Exxon Industries.

Mr. Day was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Koren Conflict and a member, former Secretary and Treasurer, and Lay Reader of Trinity Episcopal Church and a long time standing member of The Country Club of Columbus. He was a former member of Green Island Country Club, the Big Eddy Club and the River Club. He was also a member of the Historic Columbus Foundation and the Overlook Community Preservation Association.

Mr. Day was preceded in death by his son Thomas Fred Day, Jr., and son-in-law Rayford Oliver Brooks.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Sara "Sally" McCrory Day, two daughters; Sydney Day Brooks and Katherine Day Cannon (William) all of Columbus, Ga., three grandchildren; Sterling Crawford Sebek, Paul E. Griggs, III., Jon Thomas Griggs and four Great Grandchildren.

Mr. Day enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends playing cards.
