Thomas "Tom" B. Breazeale, Jr., 89, died on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Columbus Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Porter Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
Mr. Breazeale was born November 18, 1925, in Pickens, South Carolina, the son of the late Thomas Bruce and Pauline Townes Breazeale. He retired from United Cities Gas Company as Division Vice President of Marketing in 1985. Mr. Breazeale was a past member of the Better Business Bureau, Columbus Board of Realtors, Columbus Home Builders Association, Downtown Business Association of Columbus, Association of the United States Army and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. He was a long time member of the Masons and Shriners, past advisor of marketing at Columbus Vocational Technical Institute, past member of the Public Utility Advertising Association, as well as, the Advertising Club of Columbus. Mr. Breazeale served in various capacities with the American Cancer Society and was past member of the board, as well as, the Georgia Unit of American Heart Association and United Way. He was active in the American Lung association of Georgia, on the board of the Girls Club of Columbus and past President of Junior Achievement. Mr. Breazeale was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church and assisted in mission work on 5 trips to foreign countries. His hobbies in his younger years included bird hunting, fishing and weekend farming. He lived the last years of his life at the Gardens at Calvary and assisted in fundraising effort for the multi-passenger van for residents. He was fondly named "the mayor of the Gardens." He loved to watch the birds feed out his window and looked forward to winning in Bingo.
Mr. Breazeale, fondly known to family and close friends as "TB" is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Sara Pike Breazeale. Survivors include his children, Thomas B. "Tom" (Susan) Breazeale, III of Hamilton, GA, Nancy Breazeale of Columbus, GA and Georgie Ann "Bitsy" (Steve) Pagano of Phenix City, AL; Grandchildren, Thomas B. "Trey" (Tiffany) Breazeale, IV of Smiths, AL, Kayce (Jerry) Ballentine of Columbus, GA, John Pagano of Upatoi, GA and Zach Davenport of Columbus, GA, four great-grandchildren, Bobbi Taylor and Caroline Breazeale both of Smiths, AL, Miller Ballentine of Columbus, GA and Tyner Pagano of Upatoi, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
