Thelma Williams Gilbert, 79, of Columbus, GA died Monday, October 3, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wason Carroll officiating. A private interment will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Gilbert was born October 7, 1931 in Blakely, GA daughter of the late T.H. and Eula Lee Jenkins Williams. She worked as the office manager of billing at Columbus Hospice. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL. She was a Girl Scout leader for 20 years, during this time she founded and helped build with her husband, the first Girl Scout camp in Cuthbert, GA. She was also a Lioness with the Columbus Lions Club.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Gilbert.
Survivors include her daughter, Denise Unley (David) of St. Petersburg, FL, son, Dennis Gilbert (Lisa) of Leesburg, GA, three brothers, Buddy Williams of Blakely, GA, Tommy Williams of Brooksville, FL and David Williams of New York, NY, two sisters, Pauline Childree of Reynolds, GA and Anna Mote of Wayback, GA, six grandchildren, Nikki, Tara, Chelsea, Catibrie, Dennis, Jr. and Kevin, and three great grandchildren, Gavin, Brayen, and Zayden.
