Terry Mary Welch

Terry Mary Welch, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024, at her residence in Cataula, Georgia, attended by her devoted husband of over years, Dr. Gustin Welch.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, August 5, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at 1:30 pm at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery following the service.

Terry was born February 10, 1945, at Gorgas Hospital in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, the daughter of the late Pedro Monzon and Benigna de Castillo. Terry was not a conventional writer, but she was very much the author of her own life. She grew up in Panama where she experienced many diverse cultures and fostered many lifelong friendships in the Canal Zone, Colon, and Panama City. Terry had presence and people were drawn to her. She was extraordinary and beautiful, the center of whatever room she was in.

Terry lived her life unapologetically. She saw a different life, a life she wanted, and lived it with no regrets. She loved to drive and was always ready to take a road trip with her husband to the beach, city, or shopping mall. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and friends, and was delighted to eat various cuisines from all over the world. She also treasured just sitting in the living room watching old movies and looking at fashion, gossip, cooking, and home decor magazines. She loved to dance and spent many Saturdays cleaning the house and dancing to loud music.

Terry is survived by her family, including her husband Dr. Gustin Welch of Cataula, Georgia; her son Dr. Jason Welch (Dr. Leslie Cloud Welch), and his children Dorian and Jason of Richmond, Virginia; her daughter Joni Sue Bair (Patrick Bair) of Hartselle, Alabama, and her sons Eli Patrick Bair (Celina Marie) of Seattle, Washington, and Liam Michael Bair (Tessa Blaire) of Scottsboro, Alabama; her daughter Donnie DiValentin (Dr. Louis DiValentin) of Anniston, Alabama, and her daughters Carlisle DiValentin of Atlanta, Georgia, and Antonina DiValentin of Chicago, Illinois; and her daughter Jo Carlisle (Dr. Tim Gilmore) and her daughters Emily Gilmore and Veda Gilmore of Jacksonville, Florida.
