Terese Catherine Avery, affectionately known as Terri, of Phenix City, AL, passed away in the early morning hours of April 8th, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital, from heart failure after a short battle with a bacterial infection.
Born on March 8, 1960, in Frankfurt, Germany, to the late Billy McDaniel Hodges and Nancy Morgan Hodges. Terri’s spirited and thoughtful nature shone brightly throughout her 63 years. Family was the center of Terri’s life as she took immense pride in being a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her loving children, Trae Avery (wife, Ailyn), Adam Avery (wife, Tamara) and Ashley Roy (husband, Daniel) along with her cherished sister, Vicky Hill (husband, Darryl). Terri’s love extended to her eight grandchildren – Chloe, Daniel III, Christian, Ashur, Dalton, Savanna, Ryleigh, and Dawson –who are her most prized possessions. In addition, she leaves behind countless cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers, and brothers-in-law.
A proud graduate of Hardaway High School, class of 1978, she entered the work force and spent much of her career as an Executive Assistant. Her most memorable work was spent while she was employed at Auburn University and Callaway Gardens. Her professionalism, dedication and exceptional interpersonal skills were admired by both her superiors and colleagues.
The cornerstone of Terri’s legacy is founded upon her unwavering faith that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. She was a beacon of love to her children and grandchildren – all of whom adored her immensely. Terri’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, laughter, and cherished memories, woven together by her commitment to her family and Jesus Christ. The shared memories we have of our mother, Terri, will forever lighten our hearts and brighten our days. We take rest in knowing that she passed from this life into Glory and is now comforted in the arms of her Savior, forever.
