Sylvester (Les) Joseph Wagenti, 83, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on May 13, 2020.
A celebration of life service will be held 7:00PM Friday, June 26, 2020 at River of Columbus Church with Pastor Mike Childs officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Born in Lodi, New Jersey, he was in the United States Navy after high school. After an honorable discharge, he became a carpenter for a few years before joining the Lodi Police Department. He then became a polygraphist working with various companies including the Hudson County New Jersey Prosecutors Office. In 1974, he moved to Florida where he became Head of Security with a national bank in charge of the Southeast Region of the United States.
In 1993, he was transferred to an office in Georgia, where he soon after retired. In retirement, he continued to stay busy doing carpentry work with his good friend, Don Bohannon. He loved to build things. Once he could visualize it, he could build it. He enjoyed gardening, hummingbirds, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and making jokes.
He was an active member of the River of Columbus Church in many capacities. He had a servant's heart: always there for family, friends, and acquaintances. He also went on mission trips including Cuba and Africa, where he witnessed miracle healings taking place. On one of his trips to Africa, he gave away the clothes he had in his suitcase to the locals who were in need of clothing. Having a giving spirit was one of many of Les' amazing attributes.
He is survived by and was a loving husband and best friend to Julie Wagenti; a wonderful father to Janet, Anmarie, Chris, Joe and Melanie, Michael and his wife Charity; a generous grandfather to Stephen, Vincent, Eric and his only granddaughter Capricia; and a caring brother to Salvatore and his wife Nancy.
He is also survived by daughter-in-law Angela Wagenti, his nieces Denise and Donna, many cousins, and Harry Jackson, for whom his wife is caretaker.
