Steven Earl Reed

Steven Earl Reed, 49, died on February 6, 2021, at his home in Fortson, GA after a two year battle with metastasized sarcoma.

Steve was born in Colorado on January 9, 1972. After graduating high school in 1990, he enlisted in the United States Army and would go on to serve his country for 29 and a half years. Throughout his service, CW4 Reed completed several deployments that took him around the world, including Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, Uphold Democracy Haiti, Enduring Freedom–Afghanistan, Enduring Freedom–Horn of Africa, and Enduring Freedom–Philippines. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), and the Joint Service Commendation Medal (2nd award). He has earned the Special Forces tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge. All of these accomplishments and more exemplify his dedication and service to his country.

Not only was Steve a brave and hardworking soldier, but he was also a patient and dedicated husband and father, who loved his family above all else. He married Tae Kyung Do in North Carolina on June 28, 1996. Together, they had three lovely daughters: Heana, Hasana, and Haley. One of the many ways he showcased his love for his family was through his hobbies, which combined the best of both the manmade and natural worlds. Steve enjoyed collecting the latest tech gadgets and taking photos. His photography collection featured candids of his family, selfies, and a series of photos of his dog Haru. Steve also enjoyed deep-sea fishing, hunting, and was a master chef. He shared his love for cooking with everyone he came across, always making sure to offer his creations with not only his family, but his friends and neighbors as well. His steaks were known by everyone as the eighth wonder of the culinary world.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 12, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home with Rev. Sungman Park officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. For those unable to attend the services, it will be live-streamed at www.mcmullenfuneralhome.com. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 facemasks and social distancing will be required during the service and the visitation.
