Reverend Stephen Quinn, S.T., 92, died of cancer on November 2, 2009 at the Shrine of Saint Joseph in Stirling, NJ.
Father Stephen was much loved by many who came to the Shrine for Reconciliation, guidance in programs of recovery, and spiritual counseling. His warmth, availability and personal interest in those who came to him was cherished by them as they experienced his wisdom and understanding.
He was born on July 7, 1917 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Francis Joseph Quinn and Laura Bridgett Thompson, was raised there and in September 1935 entered the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity in Alabama. After seminary training in the Order, he was ordained on May 18, 1944 in Washington, DC. He received a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America, and then taught in the Missionary Servant's seminaries in Silver Spring, MD and Winchester, VA, later serving as Rector of those schools.
On June 6, 1961, he was elected Vicar (Assistant) General of the Order and on June 1, 1967 was elected General Custodian (Superior General), an office he held for twelve years. Following this, he became part of the Staff of Saint Joseph Shrine on November 5, 1980.
Father Stephen is mourned by his nieces and nephews and their children, and by all who felt the love in his ministry at the Shrine.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday at 11 AM in the Shrine Chapel. Hours of visitation at the Shrine Chapel will be Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Final Mass and interment will be held Tuesday in Holy Trinity, AL.
