SSG (Ret.) John Richard Prince, 86, of Columbus, GA., died Saturday, May 4, 2019 at River Towne Center.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL.
SSG (Ret.) Prince was born March 26, 1933 in Huntington, IN., son of the late George H. Prince and Edna Fisher Prince. He served two years in the Navy prior to serving 20 years in the U.S. Army. He retired as a Staff Sergeant. After retiring from the military, he settled into the Chattahoochee valley and worked as a handyman. SSG (Ret.) Prince loved guns and target shooting. He loved tinkering with gadgets and gardening and the natural world. He was very religious and a devoted Christian, and he was called "PaPa John" by his family and friends.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Violette Prince, sisters, Glorianna Tuttle and Georgianna Brown, and brothers, Mike Prince and Glen Dale Prince.
Survivors include his companion of 25 years, Louise L. Peters, of Columbus, GA, niece Diane Herring (Tom Evans) of Indiana, nephews, Kevin Herring and Robert Herring. Extended family includes, Don Coker (Bernadette) of Columbus, GA, Rick Coker of Columbus, GA, Loretta Peters Martin (Chip) of Nashville, TN, and Billy Peters of Columbus, GA, as well as numerous grand and great grand children.
