SSG (Ret.) Donald Patrick Mitchell, 81, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Vista Care at Franciscan Woods.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 9, 2012 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Chaplain Maj. Stephen Alsleben officiating. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SSG (Ret.) Mitchell was born March 2, 1931 in Prudence, WV son of the late Frank and Retta Feazell Mitchell. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant having served two terms in the Korean Conflict. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal with Oakleaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He also retired from the Maintenance Department of the old Cobb Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Edeltraud Sengl Mitchell of Columbus, GA, children, Evelyn Maxwell of Globe, AZ, Donald F. Mitchell (Susan) of Columbus, GA and Rosalee Colbert of Box Springs, GA, four grandchildren, Justin Mitchell (Tina), Devin Mitchell, Katelyn Allen (B.J.) and Kayla Perry, and two great grandchildren, Ben Allen and Emery Rose Allen.
