SSG (Retired) William Thomas "Bill" Belvin, 77, passed away December 18, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness.



Graveside Services with full military honors will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, December 20, 2013 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Chairman of Deacons at Eastwood Baptist church, Chaplain Julius Griffith officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.



He was born April 22, 1936 in Rome, GA. He was a resident of Columbus for the past 51 years. Bill joined the US ARMY at the age of 15 and served proudly from 1951 until his retirement in 1965. Bill served in the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry Division and again with the 7th Infantry Division along with a tour in Germany. He was also in the 11th Air Assault from 1962-65.

He was a life member of the VFW Post 665 and past All State Post Commander. He was a member of the American Legion Post 35 and life member of DAV Chapter 7. He was on the Retirement Board at Ft. Benning and co-chairman of the Veterans Council for 7 years. He was a life member of the 2nd Infantry Division Association and served as secretary-treasurer and editor for 15 years. He was also the assistant scout leader for Troop 35 for 7 years.



He enjoyed buying and selling stuff at the local flea markets. He was a tinkerer and piddler, always up to a challenge to repair things. He loved animals, especially his dogs; Bunny, Ranger, and Little Dog who are waiting on him in Heaven.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter; Darlene, parents; Edward and Alma Waites Belvin, brother; Johnny, and sister; Catherine.



He is survived by his wife; Norma, daughter; Diane (Bill) Gillespie of St. Joe Beach, FL, son; Larry (Marie) Belvin of Acworth, GA, three grandchildren; Amy, Nick, and Julie, and three great-grandchildren; Landon, Ethan, and Abram, and his beloved canine friend; Rusty.



In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31907.
