SP5 (Ret.) Florencio L. Martinez, 89 of Columbus, GA died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 12 Noon, Monday, April 8, 2013 at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
SP5 (Ret.) Martinez was born January 6, 1924 in San Mateo, New Mexico son of the late Clemente Martinez and Maianita Chavez Martinez. He was Retired Sergeant of the U. S. Army having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was catholic by faith. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Falcons.
Other than his parents his was preceded in death by his wife Tamara M. Martinez; son, Konstantin "Butch" Martinez; sister, Margaret Arriolla and brothers, Max Martinez and Sonny Martinez.
Survivors include his children, Victoria D'Amore (Chris) of Jackson Heights, NY, Maria Swank and Sandy Guthrey (Darrell) of Columbus, GA ; sisters, Flora Bacca and Mary Lopez both of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
