Sherri Kapelka Christenson

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Sherri Kapelka Christenson, of Columbus, GA on July 8, 2021 at the age of 67.

She was born December 19, 1953 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky to Munden and Lester Kapelka. After a brief but courageous fight with cancer, her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.

Sherri was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. She had a contagious laugh that immediately filled the room. She had a big personality, but her spirit was even bigger. Always a giver, nothing pleased her more than lavishing friends and family with gifts. Sherri loved interacting with others. Hosting holiday parties was one of the many things that brought her joy. Many times the gatherings were for the sole purpose of decorating and painting her house, however, there was always plenty of food, laughter and love to sustain us. She loved deeply and enthusiastically. Family meant everything, and grandchildren were her heart and joy. There is no denying that they were the people she loved the most. Time spent with “She-She” was special, and you always left her house with a full heart, a full belly, and certainly a gift or two.

Photography was her other passion. This led her to meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jerry. Together they created Christenson Photography Studio. Their clients quickly became family, and would often stop by the studio just to share a laugh. Sherri was always adamant about getting everyone together for a family photo. There was not a family member that wouldn’t mumble and grumble, but we did it because she was the boss. These priceless memories will be forever etched in our hearts, and we feel immensely blessed to have so many beautiful family photos. Sherri was easy to love, and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Munden Kapelka, husband, Jerry Christenson, brother, Michael Kapelka, step-mother, Janie Kapelka and nephew, Nathan Christenson.

She is survived by her children, Lance Christenson (Stephanie) of Columbus, GA, April Weed of Columbus, GA, grandchildren; Walker Hyneman of Columbus, GA, Addie Christenson of Columbus, GA, Barrett Christenson of Columbus, GA, Olivia Weed of Columbus, GA, siblings; Deena Griffith (Sanders) of Columbus, GA, Michelle Hardwick (Jeff) of Phenix City, AL, Leslie Gosch (Peter) of Columbus, GA, nieces and nephews; Brian Christenson of Columbus, GA, Autumn Walker  of Albany, GA, Sarah Hayes of McDonough, GA, Christopher Lee of Columbus, GA, Jason Lee of Columbus, GA, Evan Hardwick of Phenix City, AL and Avery Seckinger  of Atlanta, GA.
