Sgt. Anthony “Alex” Adkins of Fort Stewart, GA passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2023.

Services are being held for Sgt. Anthony Alexander Adkins 11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2023 at The Infantry Chapel on Fort Benning, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Infantry Chapel. Memorial service will be held at Fort Stewart, GA on February 15, 2023 according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Alex was only 25 years old; our family is devastated and shocked by this immense loss. Alex was born on Feb. 1, 1997 at Fort Bragg, NC, the youngest of four children who loved to prank and being the peacemaker in the family. He attended K-12 schools in Kennesaw, GA where he was in Boy Scouts, JROTC, received many citizenship awards and met two of his lifelong friends Jason and Nathan.

Aside from his family, Alex’s greatest devotion was his service to God and to others. Kind, with a generous loving heart for all he spoke about becoming a priest in his youth but his path led him to follow, his Grandfathers, Father and brothers into military service, where he found his passion as a combat medic and planned on furthering his education at The University of Florida where he would study nursing and help others who were also battling Cancer. Medicine came naturally to him and he had the world’s most indecipherable handwriting to match.

Alex never gave up on his challenges and faced each day with a smile and his infectious laugh. Delivering a baby, saving a man’s life in a peach orchard and waking up with a water moccasin sleeping on his chest all in the same year, he literally was the Davy Crockett of our family.

Alex’s hobbies included cooking our family recipes, anything Star Wars, Rick and Morty, Pokemon, gaming, learning about different cultures, spending time with his brothers in arms fishing (he couldn’t wait to do that again) listening to podcasts, and learning totally random stuff to beat his parents or anyone else in road-trip trivia.

Alex is survived by his parents, Donald and Christine Adkins, his brother, Donald “DJ” Adkins, sister, Savannah Hope and brother, Sean “Zack” Adkins along with their families whom he loved dearly. He now walks with his Heavenly Father and will be forever and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to The Fisher House Foundation an organization that helps military families be with their vets and active duty service members while they are hospitalized or in a medical crisis.

“Remember to keep yourself happy even when it feels like you can’t” Anthony "Alex" Adkins
